USCB is proud to offer free tutoring to all currently enrolled students. Each student can receive up to 2 hours of FREE tutoring per subject, per week.
The mission of the Tutoring Center, located on the Bluffton campus Library rooms 220 - 234, and in the Beaufort Campus Library is to help students succeed in the classroom:
- by aiding them in gaining a deeper understanding of course material
- by assisting them in developing better study skills
- by promoting a positive attitude toward learning
Tutoring services are performed by both peer and professional tutors, so students are sure to get the specialized help they need.
Because of COVID-19, all tutoring services are offered online until further notice. Because of this change tutoring appointments are now appointment-only and must be booked 24 hours in advance. Please click on the Book Now button below to schedule your appointment. Your tutor will follow up with a Zoom Meeting link. To avoid delays in starting your appointments, make sure you have downloaded the Zoom at https://zoom.us/download prior to your meeting. You will need a computer/device with audio capabilities.
All tutors communicate via university email. If you do not receive a response to your inquiry within 24 hours, please contact the tutoring center at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 843-208-8024.
We offer one-on-one writing tutoring services with peer tutors, assisting students with writing issues such as organization, style, grammar and mechanics. Throughout each semester, we also provide regular workshops for first-year writing students in English 101 and 102, as well as university-wide workshops on common writing issues such as citation and essay exams.

Tutors are trained and ready to help students with issues such as paper content, organization, style, research, citation, and grammar and mechanics. When you bring your essay into the Writing Center, you will meet one-on-one with a tutor on the issues where you need the most help.
We do not provide written comments on student papers; our tutors are not editors or proofreaders. The goal of the Writing Center is to help you learn how to improve your writing, so you can expect to have conversations with the tutors about your papers. Both the student writer and the tutor are active participants in the tutoring process, and students are expected to come to tutoring ready to think and write.
Tutors reserve the right to send you away if you do not come prepared; it is very difficult to help students with their assignments if we don’t know what those assignments are. Please bring, at the minimum, a copy of your assignment, any readings or sources you plan to use in your paper, and your latest rough draft. You need to get started on your paper before you come visit us; we do not help students write papers from scratch. It may also be helpful to bring any notes from class or other materials you think might help us better help you.
Tutoring is available during drop-in hours (TBA) and also by appointment. Students are strongly encouraged to make appointments for important essays. You may schedule an appointment on our scheduling page or on Facebook. If you need to cancel your appointment, please call us ahead of time at (843) 208-8024. Don’t stand us up! Students who miss appointments may lose scheduling privileges.
We generally do not assist students with paper “emergencies.” For the best assistance with your paper, please visit the Writing Center no later than 48 hours before your paper is due. You are welcome to bring your essay later, but we may not be able to help you.
