Graduation: Degree Conferral

Make Sure You Complete the Necessary Steps to Have Your Degree Conferred

Smiling Grads

As a degree candidate, it's important to make sure you've crossed your T's and dotted your I's. To receive your degree you must complete:

Diplomas & Transcripts

Diploma

Diplomas

All Commencement Exercise participants are degree candidatesnot certified graduates.  Your diploma will be mailed to you from the Columbia Registrar’s Office as soon as your completion of degree requirements has been validated.

Diplomas will be mailed to the address indicated on your Graduation Application. Spring graduates may expect to receive their diplomas in August. Your diploma will indicate the degree you are receiving and your transcript will list your degree along with all majors and minors.

By University policy, diplomas and transcripts will be held if all financial obligations to the University of South Carolina have not been properly satisfied.  If you are unsure whether you have an unsatisfied debt, call the Bursar's Office at  (843) 208-8008.

Transcript Requests

To order an official transcript, log on to Self Service Carolina, complete a Transcript Request, and pay the non-refundable processing fee. All USC-system transcripts are issued by the Columbia campus; contact the USC Columbia Office of the Registrar at (803) 777-5555 for more information.  You may also print out an unofficial copy of your transcript via Self Service Carolina; this will display your awarded degree once it has been posted.

Required Exit Counseling

Exit Counseling is a requirement for everyone who has borrowed funds from the federal government or school loan program.  Federal regulations require that you complete an exit counseling session before you graduate or if you drop below half-time attendance. The counseling session provides information about how to manage your student loans after college.

During the session you will learn the rules that apply to your student loans, repayment options, debt management possibilities and the consequences of defaulting on your loans.

It is important that you understand the seriousness of repaying your student loans. If you have any difficulties in making your loan payments, please contact the lender (or servicer) of your loans.

Click to complete Stafford Loan Exit Counseling. Once you have read the information and completed the quiz at the end, you will receive a confirmation number.  Please keep this for your records.  The University of South Carolina Beaufort will receive notification that you have completed this process.

Failure to complete the exit counseling requirement could result in a hold being placed on your student account. Our hold prevents registration and the release of official transcripts from the university.

Find out your estimated repayment amounts at:  http://www.finaid.org/calculators/loanpayments.phtml.

If you have any questions about exit counseling or repaying your student loans, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 843.521.3104 or email:  uscbfina@uscb.edu
